Don’t cut that gasket!  Shrink it by freezing it for a few hours and it will fit.   When I get an RV or an old truck, sometimes the new gasket is way too big.  I found that freezing the gasket contracts the gasket. As the gasket starts to thaw and become more flexible start putting it on the glass. Get the rope in right away to help retain the shrunk shape.
